"Herewith, an Englishman's account of life and death in the West. As a reporter for the London Times, he writes his colorful and unusual accounts."

Frontier Gentleman has, among many other accomplishments, the glory of being the only radio show to being with the word "Herewith." The premise of Frontier Gentleman is an English newspaper reporter, and former British soldier, working for the London Times, reports on his experiences in the Old American West.

The show began and ended in 1958, very late in the era of Old Time Radio. John Dehner, well known for playing the role of Paladin in the popular Have Gun Will Travel show, played the role of J.B. Kendall, the Frontier Gentleman. The supporting cast included such radio professionals as John McIntire, Jeanette Nolan, Lawrence Dobkin, and others. The show was created by Antony Ellis who had written and worked on the shows Gunsmoke, Escape, and others.

The storylines tried to show a variety of aspects of the west. There was tragedy, brutality, humor, drifters, historical figures, slavery, murder, and of course crusty old prospectors. Any story that would interest a newspaper reporter is fair game. In one episode, Wild Bill Hickock was shot playing poker (a real event), and none other than the Frontier Gentleman was one of the people playing poker with him. Frontier Gentleman is considered one of the best Old Time Radio programs of all time, right up there with Gunsmoke. The show used experienced actors, writers, and production crew from some of the best shows in the past to produce a truly fine work. Unfortunately for the show, the era of Old Time Radio was passing away, like the old west (Sorry, couldn’t resist the sappy comparison.)
