20 minute adventure serialized show
Based on the best selling Horatio Hornblower series of novels by C.S. Forester, this english Old Time Radio Program starred Michael Redgrave. Redgrave is part of the world famous Redgrave acting family. The character Horatio Hornblower was a sailor in the British Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars. Hornblower rose through the ranks of the navy going from small assignments to getting command of his own ship. This is very much a patriotic (for Brits anyway), God Save the Queen type of fare. The novels by Forester are well regarded for their historical accuracy of naval life and ship strategy and technology during this time period. The radio show doesn’t go into as much detail on these aspects (describing sail rigging for 20 minutes might bore some listeners.) But rather it focuses on the adventures and of course, fighting the French. These episodes are about 22 minutes each.
