The idea for Challenge of the Yukon may have come from "King of the Royal Mounted", a popular comic book of the period.
The role of Sergeant Preston was originated by Jay Michael, then played by Paul Sutton. In 1954, Brace Beemer, who had voiced The Lone Ranger, took over the role until the show ended in 1955, when it premiered as a television series.
