Captain Midnight Old Time Radio Program Captain Midnight
Sent on a suicide mission to save France in World War I, Captain Red Albright, against 100 to one odds, successfully completed his mission, and came back… at Midnight. From this moment on, with his sidekicks Chuck Ramsey and Patsy Donovan, Captain Midnight led their Secret Squadron to fight evil, save the helpless, and spread freedom. Captain Midnight aired from 1939 to 1949 going from a regional show to a network national program. Red Albright was played by Bill Bouchey, then Ed Prentiss. Captain Midnight’s evil nemisis, Ivan Shark, was played by Boris Aplon. These adventures were based “loosely” on the show’s creator’s experiences in World War I. Creator Robert Burtt served with the Lafayette Escadrille and was a pilot, once engaging 8 enemy pilots, another time crashing in the infamous ‘no man’s land’ between trenches during a battle. |
