Dangerous Assignment Old Time Radio Program Dangerous Assignment Old Time Radio Program Yeah, danger is my assignmnet I get sent to a lot of places I can't even pronounce. They all spell the same thing, though trouble. If you've ever wondered how the CIA got us into a lot a messes in the 1950s, it may be because they send people like Steve Mitchell, played by Brian Donlevy, to foreign countries that he can't pronounce to solve problems. Oh, he doesn't actually work for the CIA, he works for a nameless government agency and just go on assignments given to him by The Commissioner, played by Berb Butterfield. Steve gets an assignment at the beginning of each episode, and off he goes to another country, to find missing weapons, impersonate a leader, stop a brewing civil war, etc. The show goes back and forth from a mystery detective show as he solves a mystery, to just straight adventure as Steve is thrown into the middle of trouble, then turns the tables on the villains. The show ran from 1949 to 1953, as such it has pretty
good production values, and sound quality. The show does a good
job using sound effects and veteran actors using accents to make
the listener believe that they are in a far off country. Its also
a nice change of pace, adding an international/ cold war flavor
for Old Time Radio. (Just keep in mind that James Bond premiered
in novel form in 1952.)
